You and me, we're history

I'll probably download it on my 360 sometime soon :D Maybe next time you're back at the office we can have a gamer night, I'd certainly bring the console in if you wanted to play it.

Also, where can I play Space Giraffe? Everyone has been talking about it lately and I feel like I'm quite out of the loop...
It's another XBLA game, done by Jeff Minter.

A word of warning - it's trippy. And hard. And challenging as in the game mechanic is way weird. It's not just like normal Tempest. For a start there's some extra game play mechanics (called Bulling) that change the way you have to play.

And did I mention it's trippy? By later levels it looks more like a cross between music visualiser (it's based on the same engine as the 360's inbuilt music visualiser) and what happens when you feed pigeons multi-coloured rice and confetti. You physically can't see what's going on. You have to hear what's going on.

It's not easy going. It's been described as James Joyce's "Ulysees".

As for playing it on the projector at work - hell yes. I still haven't given up on doing a whip round for an office one.
I've been meaning to check it out. The boys over at Destructoid aren't huge fans of Minter or Space Giraffe from what I hear, but your description has enticed me enough.

Roger that about the office xbox!

I'd forgotten how good Rez was to just watch. Of course, that's mainly how I experienced it; you, Mike, and Gareth were far better at it than I was, but even so, sitting there with the hero going up to the "rectilinear targetting mode" (which still looks cool) and taking on the over-the-top end of level bosses... well, it's so good it even makes the transition to shitty web-based Flash video and is compelling. Who needs social games you can all play when there's something you can all watch?

I was there six years ago! I have my Dreamcast and my copy of Rez!

It's just the gorgeous HDness, that's all.

If you weren't ignored then it would seriously reduce your ability to rant about things years later.

I still can't get on with Space Giraffe - my poor brain can't process all the shiny goings on at the same time as not going "oooh! pretty!" at all the visualisations in the background.
