Pedantry corner: Gescom are a side project featuring Autechre and others, so the minidisc is not called that, it's called, er, Minidisc. It got rereleased as MP3/FLAC by bleep, where it should work just as well, as long as you can do gapless shuffle.

You and Alex were precisely the person I was thinking of when I said "Now I'm not nearly hip enough to be one of the people who really gets Autechre".

Second Bad Vilbel is almost too accessible to be a proper snooty IDM track. And it's always reminded me of the "Leave Home" and in "Dust we Trust" from "Exit Planet Dust" - in my mind some of the samples sound similar which, I suppose, is possible given that they came out within months of each other.

Of course to really square the circle and talk about games as well, Jeff Minter used to do the visualisations at the Warp parties and the software he wrote for that evolved into the visualisation engine in the 360 and then into Space Giraffe.

I shall avoid the segue into Wipeout and DR though.
I bought Ambient Works Vol. 2 when at school because it had a cool cover. I listened to it a lot for a week or so, had repeated nightmares and took it back to dodgy Ray the record guy, swapped it for Arrested Development's Zingalamaduni and avoided Mr James for years after.
