90s Music Monday

Best song ever has to be either Jerusalem or I Vow To Thee My Country, despite the stupid subject matter of both.

And if you want interesting cover versions, check out the covers of Eleanor Rigby by Godhead and Ray Charles. Both far superior to the original.
[this is good]
Thanks for the links. I've tried twice to listen to the Rufus Wainwright version, but his voice pales in comparison to both Cale and Cohen.

I just bought the Jeff Buckley version on iTunes. Very nice. Even my children like this song (heard it on Shrek) My 3 1/2 year old sings along.

Not only does it appeal with a very sweet melancholy, but really listenable songs, to me, are those with lyrics that are not too abstract and not too concrete. Each listen can be reinterpreted a different way, even by one person, making it stay in my collection for years.

I'll go have a look at the Appleyard article now.
